Proclamation
ANNUAL MAY DAY FESTIVAL
WHEREAS, May Day is a day to remember, reflect, and recognize the story of freedom; and
WHEREAS, the Annual May Day Festival Committee, Inc. was founded by Marcus Baldwin to recognize the historic events brought about by the Emancipation Proclamation for the entire community regardless of race, nationality, or religion; and
WHEREAS, the committee was formed to make DeFuniak Springs a better place to live for all residents, provide family oriented activities, encourage and grow our children into well-rounded adults, and to invite everyone to participate in our community; and
WHEREAS, the May Day Festival Committee, Inc. motto is “To be successful, grow to the point where one completely forgets himself, that is, to lose himself in great cause.” Booker T. Washington, American Educator, 1856-1915;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, C. Harold Carpenter, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of DeFuniak Springs, Florida do hereby proclaim Saturday, May 15 , 2010 as the
ANNUAL MAY DAY FESTIVAL
In the City of DeFuniak Springs and urge all citizens of our community to join in this observance and participate in activities today and throughout the year.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the official Seal of the City of DeFuniak Springs to be affixed this 15th day of May of the year of our Lord two thousand ten.
