Marcus Baldwin founded the Annual May Day Festival Committee Inc. to recognize the historic events brought about by the Emancipation Proclamation for the entire community regardless of race, nationality, or religion.
The committee was formed to make Defuniak Springs a better place to live for all residents, provide family oriented activities, encourage and grow our children into well-rounded adults, and to invite everyone to participate in our community.
Our motto can be found in these words….“To be successful, grow to the point where one completely forgets himself, that is, to lose himself in great cause.” Booker T. Washington, American Educator, 1856-1915
